Big day

I didn't blog on Sunday but I did do a little bit of work. I built the door jamb and hung the door to the bedroom. This door was originally the door between the first and second floors at the top of the stairs. I am not sure when they separated the house into apartments but that is when it was installed there. It is a really nice solid wood door so we thought it would be great to use it again. I had never built a door jamb before and it wasn't really very hard.
I framed in my scuttle hole to the attic. It looks better now that there is not a gaping hole in the ceiling. =)
This is the access hole in the closet. It is there to get into the attic space that goes behind the bathroom where all the plumbing is. I broke the first piece of drywall that I was going to use. I got another piece and cut it to size. I turned my back and the wind blew it over and broke it. I then got my third piece, cut it to size, and put it where it wouldn't get broken until I put it together. This panel is built out of 2x4's and the piece of drywall. It slips down behind the base board and is held tight by notches I put in the bottom of the case moulding.
I finally got to build the closet door. I first built the jamb and then cut a piece of cardboard to fit exactly into the opening. I then transferred the shape onto the door and cut it with a miter saw and razor knife. Hollow core doors cut pretty easy. Kerry really liked it. She is the one that really wanted to have an odd shaped door.

It is starting to come together.
