Cleaning day

I finished the sanding today and swept up the drywall dust. I swept up just over a five gallon bucket full of dust from the sanding.

I was planning on getting some more mud on the walls where I needed the touch ups. I cleaned up and took a shower to go to Lowes. I just never made it back upstairs. I wound up playing games with the girls.

I have to build my own door jambs. I will probably work on them tomorrow. Kerry is taking Erin to Bible camp tomorrow.

Much better

I am very close to finished now. I guess since almost the whole third floor is covered in mud there couldn't be much more to do. I touched up all the spots that I circled yesterday and put a second coat on all the screw holes. I also coated the chimneys again. I will have to sand and coat them at least one more time. My shoulders are a little sore from all the sanding and mudding.
We put the toilet in today also. You can see how the grout got lighter after it dried. I still haven't hooked up the water supply line to the toilet so if it gets used it will have to be flushed with a bucket. I would have hooked up the vanity but I have to figure out how to make the drain functional. In order to get the correct fall to the drain line I had to move it up too far. I now have to either put the vanity up farther or make a taller p trap. I am not sure what I am going to do yet.

Tomorrow I will have to do about an hour of sanding and then put whatever mud needs to be on the chimneys. I might get some base moulding on tomorrow.

Feeling better

I was having trouble with Kerry's laptop last night. I use it to post most of the time and it had a virus. I finally got it fixed but then forgot to post. Hope the thousands of people that read this every night were not too disappointed.

I feel a lot better about the drywall now. I spent 7 hours on Wednesday putting mud on the wall. It was the last big coat. I then spent 7 hours today sanding. I only was able to sand about half the third floor. I am making pencil marks on all the spots that need a little touch up. I got to do something different on Wednesday! While I was putting on mud Kerry mixed up some grout and I helped her put it on the tile in the bathroom. When Kerry took this picture the grout hadn't dried yet so it is a little darker.

Now that we are closer to the paint step we are trying to decide the paint scheme. Since the place where the ceiling and the wall meet is not straight at all we don't know if we should paint it different colors. If we do it will be VERY noticeable. We just have to decide if we want to show off the "character" of the house or not. =)

Tomorrow I get to finish sanding and put mud on the places where it needs a touch up. I am getting close!

Ugh!

I am officially sick of drywall. I can barely even stomach going to the third floor anymore. I went up there for about an hour today and sanded some more. I didn't even get any fresh mud on the walls.

Tomorrow I am going to buckle down and get something done. I sure will be glad when the drywall is DONE!!!

We're back!

We made it back safely from vacation. I learned to clean trout while I was gone. It sure is a lot of fun.

I am back to the ole grind stone here. I am on call for Omni but I don't think they will call me. I only have 4 days left now. I have been sanding and mudding. It seems that is all I do on the third floor now. I am very bored of it if you can't tell. I only worked on it for about 4 hours today.

Tomorrow I have to go get some more mud. I sure am going through a lot of it. The odd angles must use a lot of mud. I also have to skim coat the chimneys and that takes quite a bit. I just have to remember that every time I work on it I am that much closer to finishing it.

Vacation

No pictures tonight. I was able to work on the third floor finally. I put in about 7 hours sanding and mudding. I have been having a lot of fun with the angles between the knee wall and the ceiling. I forgot how much fun it was when I did it out on the other house.

I didn't get to the grouting of the bathroom tile. I decided I would have to do the yucky stuff (drywall) before the carpet got put in. We were going to have it put in on the 23rd but we pushed it back until the 10th of July. That should give us plenty of time to get it done and painted.

We are taking a family vacation near Branson, MO. The place we are staying does not have internet access. I don't know what I am going to do without being able to get on the internet. I don't think I have went a week without it in YEARS! Maybe there will be a library around somewhere that I can at least check my email at. =)

Family gone

I finally got back to work. Most of the family left after the two weddings. The only one left is my mother. I didn't do a lot today... I am trying to ease myself back into it. =)

Kerry and I hung the door to the bathroom. It should have only taken a few minutes, but it took a while longer because I had to trim the bottom of the jambs to make them look right.
I also trimmed the bottom of the door stop part of the jamb so I could slip the marble threshold under them. Kerry picked out the threshold and I think she did a great job. It really matches the tile well.

Tomorrow I hope to grout the tile. I have been trying to do it a few times but I really think I will get to it tomorrow. I am back to work now. Only 2 more days before we go on vacation.

Tile

I was able to get the tile down on the floor today. They are 16x16 tiles. We also put a coat of paint on the ceiling and walls in the bathroom. I am glad that I hadn't put any grout on the tile yet. I spilled some of the wall paint on the floor. I am glad Kerry was up visiting because she volunteered to clean it up so I could continue to paint. She is awesome!
Tomorrow, Lord willing, I will grout the tile and put in the vanity and toilet. I have to run and get the toilet and grout in the morning and I am hoping that Kerry can put a quick coat of paint on the walls behind the toilet and vanity while I am gone.

Nada

Nope, didn't get anything done today. I started to sand this morning but the mud wasn't completely dry. I never got back up there. I guess it is going to be hard with family in town.

Mud slinging

I feel like I am doing more mud slinging than a politician! I spent the first 3 hours sanding and the next 7 putting more mud on the wall so I could sand some more.

We had a carpet estimate today and it was HIGH! I thought it was under 800 square feet up there but they measured it at 900 and that didn't include the 9x5 bathroom. I think we are going to go with cheap carpet now. It brought the price down about 1,000 dollars.

We have lots of family coming into town over the next week. My sister is getting married on Saturday and my niece is getting married on Monday. The first ones are arriving tonight. I don't know if it will slow down my progress or not. These first ones are all staying at my brother Burt's house.

Tomorrow I am going to finish the mud in the bathroom and might paint it. I will start on the tile after that. Wish me luck!

Makeup day

I made up for all the time I spent relaxing on Saturday. I put in a good 12 hours today. I didn't get a whole lot done on the third floor though. I sanded one side of all the angles where the wall meets the angled part of the ceiling. I was also able to put the first coat of mud on all the corners except for about 3/4 of the guest bedroom.

The reason I didn't get a lot done on the third floor is because my brother Burt called. He needed me to fix his outside faucet. It froze and broke about 5 years ago. He is finishing the basement so he needed to fix it before he put the drywall up. It took a while to fix it because we had to make a run to the plumbing store. I only started a small fire in the wall. It was a little distressing when we figured out that all the water was shut off to the house. The fire went out without any help though so we were okay.

As I was leaving Burt's house I noticed his kitchen sink faucet handle was just sitting on the faucet. Someone had evidently lost the screw that held the handle on. I also noticed that his new faucet was sitting in the kitchen. Burt doesn't really enjoy doing plumbing so I figured I already had my plumbing stuff with me and it wouldn't take long. I didn't realize that he was going to have to make a run to my house to get some wrenches and a run to Edmonson's Plumbing to get some supply lines. It works fine now and he was pleased. My niece Laura was even nice to me when she figured out that I was fixing something for them.

Tomorrow I will be doing more mudding... surprise!!! I might play around a little bit with the tile in the bathroom as well. I would MUCH rather tile than mud!
